Yesterday the fun2tri crew headed to Amherstview just outside of Kingston to compete in the 10th annual Loyalist Kids of Steel Triathlon. Everyone put together some solid races, making it a great day. On the girls side of results, Kelsey Saunders finished at the top of the podium in the 16 - 19 category, followed by Sasha Boulton who finished 2nd. Alana Ziabrowski was just off the podium with a 4th place finish. In the 14-15 age category Lauren Beals raced well in 9th place. Last but not least the team's youngest female competitor, Ellen Zagar, worked hard to place 8th in the 12-13 girls age group. Moving over to the boys side of things, there were three fun2triers in the 14-15 boys race. Myles Zagar was able to make his way to the top of the podium while his brother Aidan just missed it in a tough 4th place, followed by Kyle Haas in 5th. Nolan Haas raced well in a tough 12-13 field and finished in 3rd. The two young Beals twins, Connor and Andrew both went head to head in the 10-11 category to finish 5th and 8th respectively. Congratulations to all who competed. On another note, thank you to Clive Morgan who has run the race for the last 10 years. Clive puts on a great race and we are never disapointed with anything he has done in any of the years we have competed here.
Next up for fun2tri are two weeks of camp up in collingwood. Not all our amazing athletes are attending and we do have practices planned for those not attending camp. If you have any questions about it, contact Coach Lorri at lorrizagar@gmail.com. After that, the camp athletes and hopefully some others are heading out to Ottawa for the Ontario Draft Legal Provincial Championships.
Filling in for Lorri,
Myles ;P
PS: good luck to fun2tri athletes Aidan Zagar, Kyle Haas, Chris Caldwell, and Paige Hall at the 2010 National Age Group Swimming Championships in Winnepeg, Manitoba. Represent your swim clubs well.

Thanks to the Phantom Blogger
I think it must be a generation thing but I am always forgetting to post. This morning I have a bit of time before a conference call so I thought I should go on and post a very late race report from Caledon. Low and behold there is already a post about the race. Thank you to the phantom blogger.
I also want to mention that our camps are filling up. We have a few spots left in both the 11-13 camp and the 14 and older camp. If you know anyone who would like to attend, please send me an email at lorrizagar@gmail.com
Have a great day.

Late Race Report
Sorry for the extreme delay on the race report but here it is. To begin, congratulations to all the athletes on a job well done. You all raced your hardest and it paid off. To make the day even better, we had sun all day in Caledon and it sure seemed to help our athletes. To start off the day our junior's kicked things off with a bang, with Sasha Boulton placing 1st and Alana Ziabroski placing third. In our 14-15 catagory the boys were almost successful in 'pinking the podium' with Myles Zagar placing 1st, Aidan Zagar 2nd and Ben Staples in 4th. Not to be forgotten are Kyle Haas in 5th and Chalmers McAllister in 16th. On the girls side we had Paige Hall putting out a great effort in second and Elise Huet placing 7th. Moving down the age groups we had our 12-13 year olds put out some good work as the heat started to rise. Nolan Haas raced to a tremendous 3rd place finish in a tough field on the boys side while on the girls side Ellen Zagar was just sqeezed off the podium to make a 5th place finish along with her schoolmate Ginny McAllister who raced well to 13th place. And lets not forget a great performance by Nicole de St. Croix who worked her way into 23rd spot. Racing in some of the hottest conditions the day offered our young 10-11s had a great day. To start with the boys, Connor Beals finished in 2nd place followed by teammates Andrew Beals and Evan Davidson in 5th and 9th respectivley. Thanks to Barrie Shepley and C3 for putting on an amazing race once again and to any names we have forgotten, extemely sorry and we will check the results again.
Coach Lorri
PS. On another note, we had 2 athletes race at the Ofsaa track and field championships. Congrats to Kelsey Saunders and Myles Zagar on some tough performances. Also, on the middle school side of things, fun2triers raced well at the cross country championships. We had some stunning performances by Aidan Zagar, Ben Staples, Ellen Zagar, Paige Hall, Ginny McAllister, and Gillian Newton. A few weeks later some of these athletes competed at the middle school track championships and continued their great performances there. Next up on our racing lists, we have some of our older athletes vieing for spots at the Ontario Summer Games next weekend at the Guelph Lake Sprint Triathlon. The next weekend, some of our other athletes will be traveling to Quebec to race draft legal events at Coteau Du Lac Triathlon. Good luck to everyone and we will see you at training and the races.

One Week to Race Day
It is hard to believe that there is only one week left until the first race of the season (Caledon KOS hosted by the C3 club). Seems impossible that five weeks of training have passed already. Just like the old saying... Time flies when you're having fun.
We will be training at the race site this week to go over the course and get familiar with the set-up.
On another note, congratulations goes out to several fun2tri members on their performances for their school track and field and cross country teams. At the north Peel cross country championships, Aidan placed 1st in the senior boys followed by Ben in third. Their team also won the team championship. Jillian placed 4th after a hard fought battle inthe senior girls event and Paige placed 8th. Ellen placed 15th in the junior girls event.
On the track, Sasha, Myles, Alana and Kyle have been competing at invitational and regional events with their highschool teams. Sasha and Myles both qualified last week for South regionals in the 3000 and the 1500 with strong performances. Good luck in St. Catherines.
Happy training this week. Eat healthy and get lots of sleep.

Two Weeks of Training
The first two weeks of training have gone extremely well despite the cold weather on a few nights. The Thursday group started off with some easy workouts due to the athletes' involvement in school track and field and club swim meets. However, last night things got moving with a 15km individual time trial on the bike. Despite the heavy crosswind, all the athletes posted great times which we will try to beat next month.
The Tuesday group has been working hard on their bike handling skills and this past week successfully attacked the hills in the subdivision up the road. Their enthusiasm for inventing new games of tag at the end of practice are most admirable.
Just a reminder to parents, to register your athlete for the Caledon KOS race on May 30. (www.c3online.ca)
There will also be a optional bike/run workout on Sunday May 9 at 1:00. We will meet at Robert F Hall and ride approximately 30km and then run 6 km at Albion Hills Conservation Area. Please let me know if you are planning to attend.
See you next week.

Great Day at Drafting Clinic
What a great day it turned out to be for the fun2tri drafting clinic yesterday. With 16 athletes attending, it was a great success. To continue with the good news, everyone "passed" and is now draft certified for the season. Congratulations to all who participated. Also, a big thank you to cycling coach Amy Moore, who taught everyone the necessary skills and made the clinic possible. Thanks also goes to coaches Leigh-Ann and Peter for helping out.
On another exciting note, training starts this Tuesday at Robert F. Hall S.S. at 6:30. Dress for the weather. We are excited about this season and expect it to be a lot of fun and a great success.

Drafting Clinic is full
The fun2tri sponsored drafting clinic scheduled for April 18 is full. If athletes still need an opportunity for certification, OAT will be offering a clinic in Guelph on May 2. If that doesn't work for you, please email me later in the week in case any spots have opened up.

Less than 2 Weeks to go!
Hi fun2tri athletes,
We are a week and a half away from the start of club training. I know some of you have been out on your bikes and/or have started track season at school. Great!! And, of course, most of you are still swimming up a storm. All of this will help with an easy transition (how subtle) to the start of the season.
Just a reminder to email your paperwork prior to the first day so we don't have to spend time on that the first night. If you have any questions in the meantime, please send them along.
See you soon.

2010 Season Start-up
Hello fun2triers,
The new triathlon season is almost upon us. For those of you who have been diligently riding your trainers and/or running outside in the cold, we are only a few days away from 18 degrees C. That means outdoor training without cold toes and fingers.
fun2tri will continue to train on Tuesdays and Thursdays this year at Robert F. Hall High School in Caledon East from 6:30-8:00. The first Tuesday will be April 20th and the first Thursday will be April 22nd. Tuesdays will primarily be for those under the age of 14 and Thursdays are for those 14 and older. This change will help us better meet each athletes' needs.
Also, Chris and Peter recently successfully completed their triathlon coaching course and are now "community trained" coaches. Again, this will help us better meet all of the athletes' needs.
Keep checking this blog for updates. If you have any questions please send me an email at lorrizagar@gmail.com If you know of anyone who would like to join our club, please pass along our information.
Have a great day.
